Firmus Project Southgate goes on-net with Megaport
Australia’s giga-scale AI infrastructure platform plans to use Megaport to deliver secure, scalable connectivity for one-click national - and global - connectivity.
Firmus has announced its plans to engage with Australian-born global connectivity provider Megaport (ASX:MP1) as a key connectivity partner for Project Southgate alliance.
Project Southgate represents a bold new vision for AI: clean, local, and scalable. By leveraging Megaport’s network, Firmus will deliver on that promise - providing customers with a faster, more flexible, and more secure way to access and scale AI services across the country.

With Megaport’s involvement in Project Southgate, customers across Australia and around the world will be able to deploy private, high-capacity connectivity between Southgate’s AI Factory availability zones and customer environments in just a few clicks. With Megaport’s presence in over 1,000 data centres across 180+ cities worldwide, including deep roots in Australia, the collaboration keeps critical infrastructure onshore while enabling customers to reach global destinations.
Announced at NVIDIA AI Day Sydney, Southgate’s first stage is a $4.5 billion investment in Australia’s AI capabilities. At Southgate Melbourne, an initial cluster of 18,500 NVIDIA GB300 GPUs will be live in Q1 2026, whilst at Southgate Tasmania, construction is underway on a 36,000 GPU Green AI Campus, to be completed in the second half of 2026.
