ROLE SUMMARY
Firmus is seeking a Financial Accountant to assist the preparation, governance, and delivery of high‑quality financial reporting in accordance with IFRS, ASX reporting requirements, and internal governance standards.
The Financial Accountant is responsible for supporting the integrity of the company's financial records through accurate and timely completion of core accounting processes. This role plays a key part in ensuring the balance sheet is well-understood, reconciled, and can be clearly explained to stakeholders. The successful candidate will be hands-on, detail-oriented, and confident in communicating financial information to both finance and non-finance audiences.
Operating within a high‑growth technology environment, the Financial Accountant partners closely with finance, legal, commercial, and operational teams to embed strong financial controls, strengthen reporting processes, and support the organisation’s compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulatory frameworks, and audit requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with the maintenance of the general ledger, including chart of accounts integrity and transaction accuracy.
- Prepare and post monthly journals including accruals, prepayments, reclassifications, and other adjusting entries.
- Ensure all journal entries are supported by adequate documentation and are in accordance with company policy and applicable accounting standards.
- Assist with month-end close activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Support internal and external audit processes by providing documentation and responding to queries in a timely manner.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards (AASB/IFRS) and internal policies and procedures.
- Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial operations.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations across all key accounts, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and resolution of reconciling items within agreed timeframes, investigate and clear aged or unusual items, escalating issues as appropriate.
- Develop a strong understanding of the numbers behind the balance sheet and profit & loss, including key movements and drivers.
- Articulate financial results and variances clearly and concisely to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- 2-3 years’ experience in an accounting role within a big 4, listed or fast‑growth environment.
- Progressing towards CA or CPA qualification.
- Strong experience with preparing journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across departments.
- High level of integrity, judgement, and professionalism.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and AI tools
