Senior Mechanical Engineer

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Firmus Technologies is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer in the Data Centre Infrastructure domain specifically in the mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) area to join our Engineering and Technology team. The successful candidate will be involved end-to-end in the design, engineering, commissioning and operational support of Firmus’ state-of-the-art sustainable AI Factory developments. 

 

This role is based in Australia, but travel is expected (10-30% time), primarily during the delivery phases of projects.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop design and key documentation from concept to commissioning.
  • Assist in technical qualification, onboarding and management of 3rd party consultants and contractors.
  • Carry out engineering design and calculations to provide system design for contractors. 
  • Provide final equipment selections including required capacities and efficiencies for procurement and construction.
  • Review consultant designs.
  • Review contractor mechanical workshop drawings and equipment selections.
  • Assist in the creation of Operation and Maintenance manuals that shall include all maintenance requirements of systems and equipment. 
  • Carry out site inspections to ensure the installation is in-line with the relevant documentation and specifications. 
  • Participate in the commissioning of mechanical systems and ensure equipment and plant is operating at optimum performance. 
  • Develop technical engineering standards.
  • Engage in R&D initiatives and design optimisation.
  • Mentor junior engineers and assist with their technical development

 

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • 8+ years of experience with a minimum of 5 years of Data Centre MEP experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of heat transfer and fluid dynamics fundamentals including the application of appropriate international design standards (e.g. ASHRAE)
  • Familiarity with the Asia Pacific region and the application of local DC standards and norms is advantageous. 
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills with an innate ability to work with ambiguous problems and develop effective and innovative technical solutions. 
  • Detail-oriented approach to work to ensure accuracy in design and testing and strong clear documentation. 
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. The ability to articulate ideas and convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders is a must. 
  • Demonstrated experience of working in a cross-functional multi-cultural teams. 
  • Excellent collaboration, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong willingness to learn and proactively contribute to team and organisational goals.
  • Flexibility to adapt to evolving project requirements and priorities with an eagerness to take on new responsibilities and learn on the job.
