Senior Network Architect, AI Infrastructure

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Firmus Technologies is seeking a skilled Senior Network Architect specialising in AI networks to join our Cloud Architecture and Software Defined Infrastructure team.

The ideal candidate will take technical ownership of the design, deployment, and optimization of scalable, secure, and high-performance network infrastructure for AI environments. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of AI networking technology and contribute to the growth of AI infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ownership of network designs, from concept through deployment, for AI infrastructure projects.
• Create optimized network designs for large-scale AI clusters considering factors like bandwidth, latency, and scalability.
• Influence networking hardware and software components selection for the cluster, including switches, adapters, and protocols.
• Collaborate with the Data Centre infrastructure team to ensure performant scalable deployments.
• Assess the current infrastructure, identify gaps or deficiencies, and recommend improvement strategies.
• Analyzing network traffic patterns and implementing strategies to improve data transfer speeds within the cluster.
• Evaluate new technologies, architectures, and design patterns to improve network performance and efficiency.
• Stay informed of industry trends, technologies, and vendor offerings to ensure future-proof network designs
• Mentor junior engineers and assist with their technical development

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Advanced network design and capacity planning.
• Proven experience in designing and architecting large scale network infrastructures across LAN, WAN and wireless environments.
• Experience in designing and maintaining VXLAN EVPN fabric across data centres
• Strong understanding of routing/switching technologies and protocols (Ethernet, IP, BGP, OSPF, FabricPath, SD-WAN).
• Ability to create both high-level architectural diagrams and detailed low-level designs.
• Experience evaluating technology options from leading vendors such as Mellanox, Cisco, Juniper, Fortigate, Palo Alto, Arista, and others.
• Hands-on experience in architecting RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCE) or InfiniBand networks would be well regarded.
• Fast and independent self-learner with outstanding technical skills.
• Driven and focused on customer needs and satisfaction.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong written, verbal, and listening skills are essential.

 

KEY COMPETENCIES

• 5+ years of experience of architecting large scale networks.
• Proficiency with network simulation and modelling tools
• Solid understanding of advanced networking technologies, particularly those related to AI.
